Jack the Cat, Lost by American Airlines

Published August 31, 2011

Jack the Cat, a cat lost by American Airlines, raises issues about airlines' ability to transport animals.

Last Thursday afternoon, owner Karen Pascoe and her feline friends, Jack the Cat and Barry, were supposed to be being transported from New York's JFK International Airport to California. Before her flight even took off, however, Pascoe received a call saying that her cat Jack was lost; he had gone missing in the baggage claim area.

Since that point in time, Pascoe has been relentless in her search for her cat. Starting a Facebook page that has quickly (as the L.A. Times points out) transformed into a bit of a phenomenon, Pascoe has accrued a number of followers who have all assisted her in putting pressure on American Airlines to help find her missing cat.

This latest story re-raises past concerns about airlines having issues transporting animals.

Pascoe's original and unorthodox means of putting pressure on American Airlines seems to be working.

She has already received direct responses from American Airlines via their Facebook page regarding the status of the search for Jack.

Additionally, they have even gone on to invite Pascoe back out to New York to help assist in the search.

What do you think about Pascoe's relentless and unorthodox search for her missing cat? Would you do the same? Do you think Jack will eventually be found?

I can not believe that the cage was opened to enable one of the cats to get out. This is quite bizarre. Why on earth would that have been done?

Sadly, AA doesn't really care about finding Jack the cat. His owner Karen Pascoe had to purchase a ticket to fly from SF to JFK last weekend to search for her cat that AA lost. They would not even fly her for free to look for her kitty. What a heartless corporation they are. He has now been missing for 30 days today and no sign of him. AA will now let anyone view the security tapes from that day in baggage area and would not allow Karen to search baggage area last weekend while she was searching for Jack. They people looking for Jack are volunteers who have joined Jacks FB pag which is now at almost 15,000. Shame on AA for treating Karen and Jack this way!

My dog was lost by this same airlines for a whole day. I turned into a vicious snarling dog myself because I was met with such apathy from the airlines. I would turn up heaven and earth to find my valued member of my family. We are all sending our positive thoughts and wishes for Jack's safe return. Keep the faith!

I would never trust them with my animals, and they need to do more to find him!

Also, this is why I will not transport any of little animals by plane, heck, they can not keep up with the luggage...

How in the world does an so called airline lose a cat in a crate or carrier....someone let Jack out....sorry, I do hope he is found, I would be so heart broken if Jack was my cat & know the owner is too, & Jack must be scared...GOD BLESS YOU, JACK & YOUR OWNER, as far as AA or any airlines, you don't want to hear what I would say....
