Irish Breeds- Kerry Blue Terrier

The origin of the Kerry Blue Terrier is largely obscured even though they are named for County Kerry in southwestern Ireland. The "Kerry Blue" is both playful and protective and is well known for being both a determined pursuer and destroyer of game. The "Kerry Blue" is probably most famous for having nationalist leader, Michael Collins attempt to have it adopted as the national dog of Ireland in the early 20th century.The Folklore Because no one can verify the origin of the Kerry Blue Terrier, legend has become fact in many parts of Ireland. One legend is that a Russian ship wrecked in the harsh waters off of Tralee Bay and that a Russian "Blue Dog" heroically swam to shore and was mated to local Irish dogs.
