Irish Wolfhounds have a peaceful and quiet personality.

The Irish Wolfhound is commonly referred to as the tallest breed of dog although Great Danes are taller. The Wolfhound was used as a war dog in order to drag men off of horseback and its great size was used to hunt Irish Elk. Despite its stature, the Irish Wolfhound is typically friendly and sweet natured.

The Folklore

The Irish Wolfhound is believed to have been the preferred dogs of Irish nobility centuries ago. Because of this, it is believed that when an Irish Wolfhound takes a special "shine" to a person who is not its owner... that person is afforded an air of nobility unless it can be disproved. For this reason, the Wolfhound has a special place in the hearts of all he befriends.
