How to Stop Cat Biting

Q: My cat bites me to get my attention when I'm reading or at the computer. How can I get him to stop? A: Even though your cat is probably not biting you to hurt you, this is still an unacceptable behavior. In order to take your cat's mind off of you, be sure to provide your cat with lots of environmental stimulation. Toys, catnip, treats, and laser lights are all things that can distract your cat and keep them happy. If these things are not enough to curb your cats' biting habits, you may need to be a little more aggressive in training your cat. You can keep a spray bottle filled with water to spray them when they do this. This is not harmful to your pet and most cats find it annoying enough that they will leave you alone. You can also try using something that makes an offensive noise. Try a box filled with marbles or coins and shake this in front of your pet when they misbehave. Always remember to reward your cat for any good behavior that he or she displays!

I must admit that the best thing I've found for my now 10-month old male kitty is putting him in time-out -- alone with no toys. Leave him for 5 to 10 minutes and he comes out sweet as pie. He no longer bites!
