How Does Your Cat Show Affection?

Published September 2, 2010

Ok! I will readily admit when I am talking about our cats, I often lose my sense of objectivity. I am frequently prone to talk about them a lot, and once, was even accused by a dear cat veterinarian friend that I am addicted to kitties. Meow Culpa!

But I am sure you understand that it is difficult to be owned by two such handsome, intelligent, and affectionate felines, who have delightful senses of humor, and resist running off at the fingertips about them at times. So please forgive my occasional bursts of bragging and be gentle with me.

While my love affair with both my cats is a constant in my life, each of them demonstrates their affection towards me uniquely. Hush Puppy, wearing a huge grin, plops in my lap and snuggles his body as closely to me as possible. He rests his head securely on my leg while he softly purrs himself to sleep.

Hubble, on the other hand prefers communicating his love verbally. He enjoys accompanying me around the house, brushing his body against my legs, keeping up a constant monologue with his meows, trills, and chirps while looking up at me adoringly with his beautiful big blue eyes, which follow my every move.

But what I most enjoy about Hubble's extensive repertoire of affection is his penchant for "shampooing" my hair whenever I am sprawled on the couch watching television. As far as I am concerned, since his scalp massages are so incredibly relaxing, the only downside to this bit of bonding behavior is I fall asleep immediately, missing the endings of many programs. Oh well, there is always "on demand" to remedy this problem, and it's much safer than taking a sleeping pill.

So I got to wondering if the gift that Hubble so often bestows upon me is uncommon. And while I was cogitating on the issue, I must have been sending out some rather loud vibrations which were quickly received by a psychically gifted friend. Bless her - she must have forwarded it with great affection in order to put my mind at ease.

However, I seriously doubt I will bother to share this video with Hubble. Mind you I am not stingy, but I worry he might attempt some of the moves the featured kitty is demonstrating. They definitely appear somewhat painful, don't you think?

Enjoy this hilarious short video, which inspired my ramblings, uploaded to YouTube by Cheezburger.

Some cats get so relaxed, they start to drool! I’ve had a couple of cats who did that. -County Line Nissan

Protect animals, get the fake leather. It looks the same but when you sit down on it, you know that you are not sitting on a dead animal. It is your choice though! Also, sheepskin is more expensive I think. Leather beanbags

I just found your website and wow, people like me, that really love animals. I was given a female black and white pit almost three weeks ago. She looked like she had given birth in the last few days, but I was wrong, she gave birth two days later, the cutest babies. Mom and pups are fine, and I just want to share that we all deserve to be happy, and if you can care for one special animal, do it, it will make everybody happy. Momma and the rest of my extended family certainly are!!!

My two babies Joaquim and Eugene are very affectionate with me but in difrerent ways. Joaquim who is 3 usually jumps on the bed when I'm watchng tv or getting ready for work and sprawls on my ankles and head butt me. Or he grooms my hair. Eugene is 2 and half and he talks to me a lot. As soon as I come home, he follows me and comes to me when I call faster than Joaquim. He loves to massage my stomach with his two front feet when I'm lying down or just sprawl out on my stomach. what I love about him is his massages and the little stories he tells me. Quite often though they both jostle each other to see who can be closest to me when we are lying down together watching tv. I love my babies. They are the greatest companions in the world.

Let's see......CJ Sobol chirps at me and stands on his hind legs while making happy feet on my butt or thighs as I am standing at the sink. Esther launches herself into my lap the minute my butt hits a chair then purrs and stares at me with a very wistful expression. Harley head bonks me and licks me. If I stop petting him before he is ready, he grabs my hand, gives me a bite correction and places my hand back on his body. Kitty Castaway rubs on my and makes happy feet while purring in my ear. Marbles just quietly sits in my lap or yells her affection from across the room. Mischief stares at me and slowly closes her eyes. Now and then she will rub, but she really isn't a touchy feely cat. Tallulah will crawl into my lap no matter where I am sitting. She just sits. No purring, no chirping, no rubbing. She makes no vocalization even to the other cats. Every once in awhile I will get her to purr, but it isn't very loud. I think I got all seven. LOL

My most affectionate cat, Grace, puts me to sleep at night. When I go to bed at night, she comes up and cuddles under my arm with her head on my chest until she's sure she's put me to sleep. Then she very quietly gets up and goes out to play with her ball.
