How Do I Stop My Male Dogs From Marking in The House?

A: Are your dogs neutered? If not you may want to try having this done since it may help with the marking behavior. Another thing to consider would be hiring a trainer. Trainers can sometimes be costly so perhaps you can find a book or information on the internet about training.

Another thing to try would be crate training as many people do for puppies. Whenever you are not home or when they are sleeping they are kept in their crates. They must be let outside (and rewarded for eliminating) each time before they go into the crate and right when they come out. If this works you can slowly give them back free range of your home. Just remember not to use the crate for punishment or they will relate it to something negative rather than a safe space!

My older male dog just started marking in the house again. He used to do it when he was a puppy but we got him neutered and as he got a little older he stopped. He has been fine for years until recently. It does not seem to be a bladder issue because he always lets us know when he has to go out and he does. We have kept him in a crate for the night and he had no issues. So for some reason he has decided he wants to mark the house up again. He never does it when we are in the room so we never see him do it so we cannot stop him in the act and take him outside instead. I just don't know what to do.
