A black Labrador Retriever named Bear became a hero dog by saving a 14-month-old child from drowning in the family's pool. Editor's Note: This is not Bear.
According to a story posted by ABC News, a 4-year-old black Labrador Retriever named Bear saved a family's 14-month-old child, Stanley, from drowning in the family pool.
As the story goes, Patricia Drauch, Stanley's mother, was doing yard work around the house this past Sunday when the child fell into the swimming pool unbeknownst to her. Although Drauch didn't initially notice Stanley missing, her dog Bear did, and took action.
Drauch says Bear immediately made for the swimming pool where Stanley was, and leapt in to save him. He kept the child afloat by swimming on his back under Stanley and letting him rest on his belly, preventing him from going any farther underwater.
The move bought time for Drauch to get to the pool and pick Stanley out, who was then taken to the hospital. He was released later the same day, and seems to have suffered no ill effects from his brush with death, due in large part to the actions of his dog.
Bear has proven to be the latest in a slew of hero dogs that has emerged in 2012. Back in April, a pit bull named Kilo took a bullet to save his owner's life when a robbery was about to happen at his home. In May, a pit bull named Lily dragged her unconscious owner from a set of railroad tracks as a train was coming their way. She saved her owner from certain death in that instance.
