Glee star Chris Colfer added a new furry friend to the family after rescuing a senior cat named Brian last week.

Chris Colfer is filled with “glee” over his new furry friend!

The 21-year-old Glee star tweeted last week, “I adopted a cat today from the West Valley Animal Shelter! His name is Brian, he's 8 years-old and 20 pounds!” Colfer also attached a picture of the adorable brown tabby for his fans to see!

According to People Pets, it didn’t take long for Colfer and Brian to establish an immediate connection, convincing Colfer to sign the adoption paperwork to take Brian home. “He’s a roommate, I’m too young to be a Daddy,” said Colfer to his fans on Twitter.

Unlike Colfer, many prospective pet owners often overlook senior pets in favor of adorable puppies and kittens. In fact according to a recent AP-Petside Poll, only 15 percent of prospective pet parents are looking to rescue a senior pet. The case of the 11-year-old cat Boots is a perfect example of society’s view of senior pets as many no-kill shelters refused to take Boots in because of his elderly age.

Yet, as any senior pet owner will tell you, older pets are just as adorable and are equally in need of a loving forever home.

In that vein, Colfer strongly encouraged his Twitter followers to consider adoption when adding a pet to the family.  “It was heartbreaking to see so many sweet animals needing homes. Please think about rescuing!” he said.

My dad gave me a 2 year old chihuahua that he had rescued from a home that had no food for him. I really wanted a puppy so I could raise and that could be trained, but the second I saw his honey colored eyes I fell in love with him. Pancho and I have now 7 years together. He is everything to me.

Dolly is the 2nd senior cat I've adopted. I've had cats my whole life but after my children grew up, thought something a bit less active was what I was better suited for. I'm so glad I did! They are just as loving and loyal as any kitten I've ever taken in and typically their stories a bit more heartbreaking. If you're considering an older or younger cat -- check them both out and adopt whichever one you bond with, regardless of age or defect. They'll love you for it!
