Get Ready for the Kitty Olympics

Published April 8, 2011
Years ago I was completely enchanted when a dear friend turned me onto Aaron Rift's creative "The Cat Diary" series, featured on YouTube. Not only does he capture his feline subjects in a most intriguing manner, his choice of music and sound effects are always on the money. His deep understanding of feline behavior coupled with his unique brand of humor makes his "mini" productions highly entertaining. I highly recommend all cat lovers to keep an eye open for all of his latest work. One of my favorite "dramatic" series was his "Rubber Chicken" collection. While many folks may considered that Rift's videos often bordered on the "dark side" if viewers keep in mind they are most likely created tongue in cheek, one can appreciate them with a more balanced perspective. This said, most of the time I was laughing so hard when our cats caught me watching one featured in the series, they gave me that "oh no . . . not again," look. You know the one to which I am referring! It was their slow eye rolls or even an almost imperceptible hiss when they managed to sneak a peek at my computer screen that really got to me. I am positive they must have been thinking I had completely lost my marbles when they were besieged with my unabashed chortles. But more often than not they eventually got bored, jumping off my desk to pursue more far more pleasurable endeavors, such as a well needed nap. Unfortunately the "Rubber Chicken vs. Cats" videos are no longer available on YouTube, but I am happy to report that fortunately Mr. Rift at last has created a truly stellar production in which he pays full homage to the cat's extraordinary athletic prowess, which in this writer's opinion far exceeds even the most gifted human's talent. And while the prestigious Olympic Games provides human athletes the opportunity to compete interactively with many countries, in this short but poignant piece, Rift clearly demonstrates his recognition of the athletic ability to which felines excel by bestowing upon them the honor they truly deserve. And while Rift prepares his kitties for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, I just wonder which of the many feline-related commercial enterprises will be savvy enough to sponsor them. All serious cat lovers will be in awe as they watch these magnificent cats training for this event, while watching the video uploaded to YouTube by Thecatdiaries. Image Source: Fllickr user guppiecat

Love these videos. We see some of those moves here with the so called "Kittens!" They are now going on six years old and are still agile and able to twist and fly through the air. The older cats just look at them with a mixture of disgust and boredom. Spring seems to have energized them even more lately. My daughter picked daffodils from the garden yesterday and this morning there were daffodils everywhere.LOL

I have always been amazed at the way cats are able to leap, twist, and move themselves. They are quite the cartoon at times.
