The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation is holding an annual gala that supports retired racehorses.

Did you know that thousands of Thoroughbred racehorses face retirement each year? And did you know that while these horses are no longer able to compete in racing, many are capable of living long, happy, productive lives in a totally different capacity?

Fortunately, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), the leading and largest equine rescue organizations of its kind, is totally devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and retraining of horses no longer able to compete on the racetrack, and is doing what this writer thinks is a fantastic job. They are presently caring for over 1,100 horses each day, with an additional 650 horses placed in adoptive homes. Additionally, TRF makes it possible for retired thoroughbreds to be trained as riding horses. Many of these gorgeous thoroughbreds go on to new careers in the show ring, often in Junior Equitation competition.

While the word "retirement" may conjure up images of lush green pastures upon which these magnificent equines can graze, or hang out under shady trees in peace and harmony, those images are all too frequently just a fantasy of those of us who adore these beautiful animals. Sadly, the truth of the matter is they face a very uncertain fate of potential neglect, abuse and slaughter. These horses desperately need the help and support of horse owners and equine lovers.

The TRF is the final hope for many horses, many of which are old and near the end of their lives. For more than 25 years, this compassionate organization has provided loving care for these retired horses and is responsible for more than 1,100 horses that are living at 30 different farms across the country.

So if anyone is passionate about horses and is interested in having an exciting evening of fun and entertainment (while contributing to the welfare of these retired thoroughbreds that have given their all to entertain racing fans), the TRF is holding its annual Gala Fundraiser on Sunday, August 7 at 7:00 PM EDT. The event will be hosted by celebrity chef Bobby Flay and HRTV’s Carolyn Conley. Among the VIPs who will be attending the gala evening are Bo Derek and David Cassidy.

But if you are unable to attend the gala in person and still want to get involved to enjoy the action,  a “virtual gala” will be available on the two popular social networking websites, Facebook and Twitter, to bring the action to viewers in real-time.

For more information visit the TRF's website and for reservations, call: (518)-226- 0028.

Don’t miss this exciting event for such a worthy cause. Reserve your seats as soon as possible!
