Fetching Dogs

Zeke, my Boston Terrier, loves to play. He’s up for any game, but his favorite is fetch, which he will do relentlessly until he becomes so exhausted that I’m worried about his health, both mental and physical. My husband ran a little experiment a few years ago to see if Zeke would voluntarily quit a game of fetch – we both had our doubts as the guy has a fetching habit that could secure him a room at Promises. It was a huge surprise to discover that 15 minutes of non-stop fetching was about all Zeke could take. The addiction continues to this day, as you can see by these pictures. I love the funny face he makes as he waits for me to throw the ball: After a few moments of tortuous waiting we have … liftoff! Age and his brachycephalic-ness make the game short lived these days … at eight years his body slows down pretty quickly. The spirit is willing, but the dysplastic back hips? Not so much. Sumner, my boxer, isn’t a rabid fetcher, but he’s up for a game every now and then. Tell us about your fetching dogs … is your pup an addict?
