Favorite TV Pets

Published December 15, 2008

Some are exotic, some are silly and some just steal the show. Sometimes TV character's furry friends are the only reason we watch the show! See if your favorite made the list. Read on for the most famous television pets.

Eddie from Frasier

Frasier did have a formidable cast but if there was one true star then it was Eddie. Eddie or to call him by his real name, Moose, got more letters from fans then any of his human co-stars.

Moose, a Jack Russell Terrier, stayed with the show for 10 years. And while he was a dedicated professional and knew every dog trick in the book, to get him to lick his co-stars faces they had to dab them with liver pate.

Unfortunately Moose is no longer with us, he passed away at the ripe old age of 16 years.

Vincent from Lost

Vincent is a Golden Retriever that has been to hell and back. He survived a plane crash, his owner Walt was kidnapped by The Others and then left him for civilization without a backward glance.

Vincent might not do tricks but he has proclivity for rushing out of the bushes just as something significant is about to happen. From the looks of the 2008 Comic Con coverage, he will be with "Losties" until the end. And with Lost, that can mean anything.

Clarence, the cross-eyed lion, and Judy, the chimp from Daktari

Daktari (Swahili for doctor) was a TV series about Dr. Marsh Tracy, a veterinarian at the fictional Wameru Study Center for Animal Behavior in Africa. Clarence and Judy were pets. Re-runs of Daktari aired from 1966 to 1969 and many children were quite taken with the idea of being a vet, living in Africa and having a lion and chimp as a pet.

The Duck and the Chick from Friends

Did a chick and a duck ever share a New York apartment before Friends? An odd couple, who much like their owners Chandler and Joey, created mayhem wherever they went - which was usually as far as Monica's apartment (much to her dismay). In the last episode we learn that they have died of old age but Joey was told they went to a special farm where he could not visit them.

Tom from Tom and Jerry

Forever caught in the game of cat and mouse, Tom was the one who could never get his way. Jerry was an exceptionally smart mouse and always one step ahead of Tom.

And let's not forget a great number of adorable animated cats like Garfield, Felix the Cat, Sylvester of Looney Tunes or Azrael from the Smurfs.

Murray from Mad About You

The Buchmans had one thick-headed dog. How could he not be since he was always chasing an invisible mouse and kept bumping into things?

Murray or to call him by his real name, Maui, is a beautiful Collie mix who was rescued from a shelter in true rags to riches story (well, he ended up as a star on TV, didn't he? It does not get more rags to riches then that).

Chester from Nanny

In the sitcom The Nanny Chester was technically owned by C. C. Babcock, but he took to nanny, Fran Fine immediately.

In real life, Fran Drescher got the cute red Pomeranian from a pet store and since she took the premise of take your dog to work day seriously, Chester got a role on the show.

Chester was with Drescher for 18 years until she had to put him to sleep due to old age.
