Do dogs get hiccups?

Q: Do dogs get hiccups? It looks like my dog has them, but I didn't think dogs could get hiccups.

A: Dogs can definitely get hiccups. While puppies commonly get them it is possible for dogs of any age to get the hiccups which are a spasm of the diaphragm. If this is something that happened only once or happens rarely there is no need to be concerned.
