President Barack Obama's White House dog Bo is definitely a high profile pet. But he's not the only President who has had his animal friend accompany him to the Oval Office.

For instance, did you know that President John F. Kennedy (JFK) had a pony named Macaroni for his kids?

Check out these other high profile pets that roamed the White House property:

  • President Dwight  Eisenhower was owned by a lovely Weimaraner named Heidi.
  • President Lyndon B. Johnson owned a pair of Beagles cleverly named Him and Her. They even graced the cover of Life magazine.
  • President Bill Clinton owned two pets, a cat named Socks and a dog named Buddy.
  • President Richard Nixon was owned by a canine trio. The trio consisted of a French Poodle named Vicky, a Yorkshire Terrier named Pasha, and an Irish Setter named King Timahoe.
  • President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy were pet parents to a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rex.
  • President George H. W. Bush was attached at the hip to a Springer Spaniel named Millie.
  • President Gerald Ford owned a Golden Retriever appropriately named Liberty.
  • President Jimmy Carter's daughter Amy owned a Siamese cat with a mouthful of a name: Misty Malarky Ying Yang.
