Come to Bed: Sleeping with Your Dog

Do you let your dog sleep in the bed with you?

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?

I do, even though I'm a little grossed out by it. It’s not that I’m grossed out by Millie, per se. She's an awesome bed partner - the way she tucks herself in behind my knees is adorable. I'm skeeved by the fact that she's ... dirty!

Think about it. She plays with the dogs that visit the store, which involves lots of rolling around on the dirty-no-matter-how-often-I-vacuum floor, she runs through our muddy yard, she frequently rolls on her goopy half-chewed bones ... she's filthy five minutes after we bathe her!

I added a special "Millie-sheet" to our bed, which, in theory, absorbs the worst of her mud/dirt/saliva. The problem is that the little diva doesn't “want” to be on the Millie-sheet. Every time I put her on it she deliberately shifts off of it, even if the sheet is perfectly positioned in her favorite comfy spot.

Will I stop sleeping with her? Absolutely not. Even the threat of plague hasn't discouraged our dirty habit. My husband loves sleeping with her too, but he's more willing than I am to move her back to her own bed. I just can't ... she is the true cuddle champion!

How about you? Does your dog join you in bed, dirty paws and all?

Absolutely!! I wipe her paws at the door and dry her off (if it is raining, she loves it)She stops and waits for me to do it. My husband doesn't like it but he's not an animal lover anyway, there's always the couch for him!!

I am guessing that a gal who sleeps with her dog would have a difficult time keeping a boyfriend??

Sorry, dont want to sound sarcastic, but did you think of washing her paws and bum before bed??? The dog, of course hahah There are wipes from dog stores, and people stores as well, that sell seperate wipes to clean the little guys..I used to use them when we left the Dog Park, cuz THATS gross! haha works beautiful smells nice...good luck...since my baby doll sleeps wit me, I read that one problem that really exists is the transfer of bladder infection...please check out...saw in only once, but from a reputable source...just keep ur panties on or a sheet on ya and you should be fine..

We let out dog sleep with us for the same reason - best cuddles. I just wash the sheets once a week (or change them at least) and I wipe her paws off after she comes in from the yard. That helps a lot. Personally, I'm okay with a bit of grim if I get puppy hugs in the morning! ~ L

I think we risk more germ contact, while conducting everyday business and living with humans. Wash the sheets! That's why we have washers and dryers.
