A runaway dog in Oregon stops traffic, and it's all caught on tape!

According to a report by ABC News, a runaway dog managed to survive a pretty harrowing ordeal which involved running across a major Portland, Oregon highway. And what's more: it was all caught on tape!

While the chase to save the dog didn't involve the high-speed action that we've come accustomed to when stuff like this is packaged in Hollywood, it is still a pretty remarkable story.

Mango, a four-year-old Pomeranian, managed to stray into traffic and away from her owner Dan Dowdy after she slipped her collar at a nearby transit center.

When she made her way into the traffic line, drivers started phoning in, alerting authorities that a dog was loss in I-405, a major Oregon highway.

Rather than becoming frustrated, drivers passing by aided Dowdy in his quest to regain control of Mango; live video from the Oregon Department of Transportation showed drivers actually using their cars to block the road to keep the pup safe!

The chase continued when Mango ran up an on-ramp and into a nearby neighborhood. After a bit of time passed, authorities realized that the dog would only stop or come back for Linda, Dowdy's wife. Mango serves as a companion dog for Linda, who suffered a stroke two years ago.

And, as a loyal pooch would do, Mango gave up the ghost of running around when Linda showed up, and ran right into the arms of her dog mom!

Pretty crazy, huh?

I have seen a dog at rush hour running for blocks and blocks down a 4 lane fast moving street. I tried my best to follow it all the while trying to call 911. I 'steered' the terrified dog down a side street and finally lost him/her.
I would do anything I could to help any animal in need at any time or place. That is pretty much a no-brainer.
So glad the above story turned out ok and maybe next time the guardians use a more secure harness on the Pom.
