The Cat Who Loves Backpacking

Published June 24, 2010

Kitty the Cat has to be one of the luckiest kittens in the world.

Not only was she fortunate enough to be rescued after being abandoned along a roadside in Louisiana, but a French couple, William and Laetitia, also extended an invitation for her to accompany them on an amazing three-year-long journey of 9,000 miles.

Their plan is to hike from Miami, Florida to Ushuaia, the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego, commonly referred to as the southernmost city in the world.

William and Laetitia believe money does not buy happiness and have made this the central theme of their trek.

The trip, initiated in 2009, has given the trio the chance to interview lots of locals, comparing the lifestyles of the poor, middle class and the rich, and learning "how they live and survive."

Their expedition is shared through videos and photographs.

It seems Kitty holds an especially soft spot in her heart for William.

She is frequently found snuggled up in a ball inside his backpack, or wrapped tightly around his neck.

Of course, William wants to ensure that Kitty is comfy and has fashioned a special cat-size umbrella to keep her shaded.

Apparently, Kitty the Cat has found the purrfect couple with whom to explore her adventurous nature.

She shares many things in common with them, especially her outgoing nature and her love for meeting new people.

Watch the charming video chronicling their amazing hike, uploaded to YouTube by wOsmith.

Cat lovers will fall in love with adorable Kitty the Cat and her enticing purrsonality.

Many folks believe that cats are not fond of travelling. I certainly think that Kitty the Cat holds a totally opposite opinion and her experiences may serve to smash this old wives tail to smithereens. What do you think? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

What a cool cat! So many people think cats don't have personalities but they only have to have one before they'll change their minds! Have a safe trip!

I had a cat for years that loved to travel :) She loved the road trip across country - loved to go for rides in the car! It's all about what they are exposed to as little ones I think. I fear for the kitties safety, tho, without a harness or such to keep it safe.

I was so impressed with this little kitty! It's not every day that you hear about a cat that enjoys travel. She is remarkable!

That is a charming story and a charming kitty! Not sure I agree with Vicki that Kitty is well-trained. It seems to me that Kitty fit in well with this lifestyle and has her owners well-trained to provide comfortable and safe transport! Loved the part where she jumped up and got settled, that was adorable.
