Cat Food- Are Premium Brands Worth the Price?

Chances are, your vet's office carries at least one premium cat food brand that is recommended for your cat. Vets know the nutritional needs of cats as well as the medical history of your cat, so it's easy for your vet to recommend the proper nutrition and supplements your cat requires.

However, not all premium cat food brands, even from the vet's office, are worth their premium price. In fact, some many not even provide all the proper daily nutrition for your cat.

Just like human food, ingredients contained in pet food are listed with the with the most prevalent ingredients first. In some premium brands, you'll see grains or meals listed as the primary ingredient. However, cats are carnivores, and do not regularly eat grains and carbohydrates in the wild, so cat food using grains as the main ingredient is really not that nutritious for your cat.

Check your own premium cat food brand's list of ingredients, do a cat food comparison, and discuss what you've found with your vet. You many be paying too much money for "trendy" cat food that might not be the best nutritional value for your cat.
