Cat Dreams of First Pets, Worries About the Changes First Animals Undergo

Were your pets worried about the potential changes that a First Pet has to undergo when they leave the White House?

Never underestimate a feline’s emotions or the compassion for other critters that they are capable of. I was strongly reminded of this fact the other night while my husband Marty and I were glued to the TV, huddled together with our two kitties anxiously watching the election returns. As some of results started to pour in, I couldn’t help but notice that Dr. Hush Puppy, our lilac point Oriental Shorthair, seemed quite agitated.

Concerned with his unusual behavior, I sat down beside him on the floor, petting him and speaking to him in a soft, calming voice to find out what was bothering him. He turned his head to me, his brilliant blue eyes filling with tears. After issuing a deep sigh, Hush Puppy began pouring his heart out.

It turns out he was worried about what would happen to Bo—the Obama family dog—if the President lost the election. How does a First Pet ever adjust to being just a plain family pet without all the special amenities, like constant attention and the trips he takes with the First Lady? If the Romneys had a pet, he would go through the same thing eventually of losing the fabulous White House perks. The poor kitty was beside himself thinking of the changes any First Pet might undergo.

As the long evening progressed, and the pundits finally confirmed that the President had won his second term in the White House, Hush Puppy started to relax and began purring loudly. His worried look changed into a huge grin knowing that no First Pet would have to lose a luxurious lifestyle for the next four years.

While relieved that the First Pet wouldn’t leave the White House, Hush Puppy was a bit perturbed when President Obama announced during his victory speech that his daughters shouldn’t expect to get another dog. But he didn’t say anything about a kitty! Hush Puppy soon fell into a peaceful slumber dreaming that Malia (who was allergic to cats) had outgrown her allergy and that a fine feline would be adopted to make a fabulous fur-friend for Bo.

Purrhaps even kitty’s dreams do come true! What does your pet dream about?  Leave a comment to tell us what you think!

The Obama girls are really allergic to both cats and dogs which is why Bo is a special breed that's non-allergenic, Dr. Puppy. If it makes you feel any better, the President is a Leo, so he's sort of a big cat himself.

I have ask that question many times. It is so obvious when they do dream, but I do not have a clue what they dream about.

I would think just the opposite. I would think that pets (especially cats) would have a hard time adjusting to the White House with so many more people than they are used to. We all know how much cats just love change. Most dogs are adaptable fairly quickly but I bet even they would become overwhelmed by all the White House staff, secret service, etc.

that would be hard for a cat.):
