Q: Can dogs get STDs? I want to breed my Yorkie and the vet said I need to make sure the other dog doesn't have any STDs.

A: Worried about your dog and STDs when breeding? Before breeding your pet, both dogs should be tested for Brucella. This is a bacteria that can cause dogs to abort. Brucella is also transmissible to humans so there is a public health concern.

Can dogs get STDs? Other STDs To Watch Out For

The only other sexually transmitted disease would be TVT (transmissible venereal tumor.) Your veterinarian could diagnose this by examining for TVT. This seems to be more common in free roaming dogs but your veterinarian could easily diagnose this.
