Baseball Beagle
Published September 9, 2008The reigning champion of last year’s Westminster Kennel Club Best In Show travels a great deal as an ambassador for purebred dogs, Beagles and the sport. Of course his owners and Westminster are also incredibly proud of his efforts.
He often travels with David Frei, the Director of Communications for Westminster. If you watch the show each year, you’ll recognize David as one of the commentators.
A couple of weeks ago, Uno traveled with David to St. Louis. He visited the Ronald McDonald House Saturday, threw out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals game Sunday at Purina Pooches in the Park Day, and then was the celebrity headliner Monday at the new Danforth Student Center at Washington University.
David says, “The Westin Hotel treated him like a rock star, with privileges and courtesies never before extended to any canine, I am sure. He must have had his picture taken a thousand times on this weekend, more and more people are recognizing him in airports, on the streets, in restaurants, etc. And he loves it!”
Watch for more about Uno this week in my blog--you won’t want to miss it!
Meanwhile, here are some pictures David shared. Uno is with Fredbird, the Cardinals’ mascot. The little girl is nine-year-old Jessica Kuebler, a cancer patient from St. Louis who stays at the Ronald McDonald House in NYC when she is visiting her doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. David asked her to come with Uno and help throw out the “first fetch” at the game. Uno ran and got it and ran it back in to the catcher.
