America's Next Top Dog Breed
Published December 4, 2007
Quick, what's the most popular dog breed in US?
You guessed it; the ubiquitous Labrador Retriever. The Lab has been #1 on the AKC "most popular" list since 1991, but I think we're on the heels of an upset this year.
Last year the Yorkshire Terrier climbed to the #2 spot, beating out longtime favorites the Golden Retriever and the German Shepherd.
I don't think that the Yorkie will make it to #1, but I have a feeling that the Golden might leap ahead and end the Lab's 15-year reign. Why? It's just a feeling. Go with me.
Lab lovers, what do you think - are you ready to give up the crown?
Update:
The Labrador Retriever continues to reign supreme and makes the number one spot of most popular dog breeds registered with petside.com in 2009. Check out this slideshow to see who the runners up were!
