Anyone who owns a pet can guarantee you that there is nothing more fulfilling than the love of an animal. Pets make great friends and give us unconditional love. This year, whether you are single or coupled up, find a furry friend for life at these Valentine’s Day adoption events organized by shelters across the country and experience the joy of true love.

1. Espanola Valley Humane Society, Espanola, NM

What: Match-making Adoption Event

When: Saturday, February 9, 2013

Where: Espanola Shelter (10:30am to 3pm) and PetSmart in Santa Fe (10am to 3pm)

What to Expect: Adopters get a chance to fill out a personality quiz before meeting the pets. If the chosen pet matches the personality according to the quiz results, the fee will be just $25.

2. San Francisco SPCA, San Francisco, CA

What: Be Mine- A Valentine’s Day Adopt-a-thon

When: Friday, February 8th to Sunday, February 10th

Where: 201 Alabama Street, SPCA

What to Expect: Attend a fun ‘Be Mine’ Tattoo Cocktail Party on Friday between 4:30pm and 9pm for free beer, wine and cocktails. Get tattooed for just $40 by SF’s most talented tattoo artists and bid in a tattoo auction where the winning bidder gets to choose the tattoo to grace two participating employees of the shelter.

On Saturday February 9th, from 12:30pm to 3pm, shelter will provide free workshops on learning pet body language, easing your dog’s separation anxiety, and finding a forever match. Enjoy foster care bake sale and get smooches at the kissing booth on Sunday between the hours of 10am and 6pm at the shelter.

3. Barn Cat Buiddies & Angels of Assisi, Roanoke, VA

What: Valentine’s Day Feline Snuggly & Sweet Feline Adoption Event

When: Saturday, February 9th 12 – 3 pm

Where: Nature’s Emporium 3912 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, VA

What to Expect: An opportunity to choose from snuggly and sweet felines.

4. The Humane Society of Greenwood, SC

What: My Furry Valentine

When: Between February 1st to 15th

Where: Greenwood County Animal Shelter Adoption Center

What to Expect: Dog adoption fees will be discounted to $75, cat fees will be $15, and kittens will be $50. Center will be open on Sunday, February 10th from 1pm to 5pm to allow visitors an extra day to see which dog or cat will be the new love of their life.

5. It’s the Pits Dog Rescue, San Diego, CA

What: Valentine’s Adoption Event

When: Saturday, February 9th from 11am to 2pm

Where: Petco Unleashed Scripps Ranch

What to Expect: Celebrate this special holiday with pit bull puppies and costumes.

6. The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, SC

What: My Furry Valentine Adoption Event

When: February 1st to 14th

Where: Humane Society shelter   

What to Expect: Adoption fees, which include vaccinations and spay/neuter, will be reduced to $50 from February 1st to 14th. The shelter has 204 “Valentines” awaiting forever homes.

7. Happy Tails Adoption Center, Sacramento CA

What: Black & White Purrball

When: Thursday, February 14th 12pm to 6pm

Where: Happy Tails Adoption Center 

What to Expect: Adoption fee for all black and white cats will be waived with donation of cat food.

8. Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, PA

What: Camp Bow Wow Cupids & Canines

When: Saturday, February 16 7:30pm to 11pm

Where: Cefalo’s Nightclub

What to Expect: Live music, casino tables, complimentary desserts and coffee along with over $10,000 in raffle prizes and Humane Society Dogs for adoption.
