Abused Kitten Dexter Still Surviving

Published July 12, 2011

While most of us will probably never purrsonally meet Dexter (that adorable, spunky, courageous little black and white kitten who was brutally and maliciously attacked just about three weeks ago by Florida resident Wilana Joenel Frazier and her two small children), thousands of people immediately fell in love with him, leaving his paw prints indelibly etched on their hearts.

Hardly a day goes by that I don’t think about little Dexter, and wonder about the progress he is making. So along with the number of emails I receive from folks requesting updates, I made a promise to myself that I would contact the staff at the Brooksville, Florida Pet Luv Neuter & Spay clinic on a weekly basis and share the latest news about Dexter with our readers.

Since Pet Luv Neuter & Spay is an extremely busy animal hospital, once again no veterinary technicians were available. And while I was slightly disappointed I was fortunate to speak with a very pleasant receptionist. She was more than happy to not only share Dexter’s progress with me, but to do a little bragging about their precious little ball of fur! So here’s the latest scoop from the “horse’s mouth” so to speak!

I am thrilled to report that Dexter continues to eagerly chow down on his own, is filling out and putting on weight. He now weighs-in at about three pounds! The mobility of his head and neck is also improving, and although there appears to be some progress in his vision, whether his sight is returning still remains unknown. Of course, they are all crossing their fingers that his sight will be restored; even though cats without vision can do extremely well.

Since being able to make a determination as to when he will have healed sufficiently from his wounds for placement into a forever loving home continues to remain an unknown factor, he is presently being fostered in the capable hands of one of the clinic’s veterinary technicians. Living at her home, under careful supervision, Dexter must be thrilled with the opportunity to play with her other fosters, and enjoy the nurturing companionship of his newly found four legged buddies. He also continues to receive additional medical care at the clinic.

Take a moment to enjoy watching Dexter playing with a toy, during a “lazy moment” at the clinic.

You must --admit this little guy is truly adorable after seeing him in action. Do share your thoughts with a comment.

Bless his little heart. How could anyone abuse such a precious little kitten. I hope he spends the rest of his life being spoiled, and given a lot of love and affection.

Thanks so much for the update, Jo - it's nice to have followup on something so hideous... and to know the little guy is making a come-back. Just wish he could "give" what he received... but then, we should be doing that, shouldn't we?

I'm one of little Dexter's facebook friends on his page, and it goes without saying that he is in my thoughts and prayers daily. Brave little man! I hope the vet tech adopts him as I'd heard she was strongly considering doing.
